Papaya Surprise

I don’t remember when, but I threw a handfull of papaya seeds in my front bed. It is a bit overgrown, so I didn’t notice that 2 little papaya trees had decided to grow! They need a lot of sun, so I don’t know how well they will do when the big oak tree in front get her leaves back this summer. Oh, there is even an azalea bloom on the edge of the photo.
The “trunks” are as big as my thumb now. And they are close together – I hate to cut one off or attempt to separate them and injure them both.
I think I will leave them be. After all, in nature if a papaya fell to the ground and started new trees from the seed – this is what would happen.
Such pretty leaves and such funny plants. When they are tall and have lots of fruit on them – I always wonder how such a skinny trunk holds such heavy fruit!
